Who are we? Our History?
Our Mission and Vision
We believe everyone deserves access to mobility aids and good clothing and footwear and we are dedicated to helping families in need improve their quality of life. Our Charity will give Disabled and low income families the chance to get out and about at little cost via Donating/Lending Wheeled products for their use. Our mission regarding the clothing is to help low income disabled families get the right adjusted clothing and footwear at minimal cost so that any money otherwise spent on these items can go to the care of ther disabled person.
We have a partnership with a Battery supplier which enables us to provide replacement Batteries at lower than Retail cost. We have a partnership with 7 major Clothing Retailers who supply us with Odd shoes and trainers and Damaged new Clothing which we adjust to the needs of the Client (Removing a sleeve and sewing up etc)
Our Mission is to able to supply all our Products and Services free of charge but to do this we would be initially asking customers to send a Donation for every item they recieve from us which will enable the charity to continue to supply the Free Service
This Charity was planned by myself and my Son a few years ago and was run part time from my House to help people in my neighbourhood who struggled finacially to repair and run their mobility items, Bicyles etc. We also Donated a few Bicycles and other wheeled items to those people on low incomes or with a disability when we had them donated to us. We would fix these items up then release them to people in need.
I personally was A single parent for 24 Years so know the struggles of Low income Single parents. On those days when the scenario is do i buy my child a second hand bike for their Birthday or pay the Electric bill.
We also looked into supplying Single Shoes, Trainers and other footwear to those who had had a amputation etc and gained a contact in Next, Deichman shoes, JD Sports, and Sports Direct who are all willing to supply us with single footwear were they are missing one due to theft or damage etc.
My son (who sadly passed away last year due to complications with his ilness) who was a Amputee would have to pay for a pair of Shoes or Trainers at full cost but would always end up with a odd brand new shoe that was no good to him and over time these mounted up. So our idea was born to advertise odd shoes to other Amputees in a swap or donate page on FB which did well for a while but this has closed down now so we can put it all together in one Charity site.
Terence (My son) who was wheelchair bound from the age of 10 played Wheelchair basketball so had a sports wheelchair for every day use which in effect were his legs and he was constantly battling with damage to his Chair which was given to him by wheelchair services which included a free reapir service.
The problem was that they were always overloaded with work and generally took 2 weeks to come out to him which meant he was housebound for that period of time. I had been a hobbyist building Bicycles for the last 30 years so used these skills and did a lot of research into the workings of wheelchairs so i could repair them for him.
Wheelchair & Mobility Scooter Repairs and Supply
Supply and repairs to wheelchairs, mobility scooters, bicycles, and trikes. All services free of charge apart from some new parts which would be charged at Cost of the item needed, unless we have it in stock from a previous donation.
We understand that most owners of Mobility scooters and Chairs received them thru a Mobility scheme but also know that having your Mobility needs met with maintenance and repair is difficult due to Wheelchair services been overloaded which can mean a wait of 2 weeks for a repair leaving you stuck at home. Motability schemes as you know offer 2 full services in a 3 year period but anything out of those services is not free.
Our aim is to create a stop gap for users where we can fill the need for a quick repair rather than you having to wait weeks for a repair. Our battery service will help customers buy there batteries and fitting at cost rather than having to pay over the odds for replacement. As you are aware Batteries are Not covered under any warranty or scheme to repair and replace them and generally the cost of replacement is around £260 where we would charge the bear minimum which is the cost of the batteries.
Footwear and Clothing Service
Our Aim at ACC is to provide Adjusted Clothing and single Footwear to those who need their clothing adjusted to suit their Disability and for Amputees who do not need footwear in pairs.
In the footwear and Clothing section you will be able to buy brand new unworn mostly branded footwear and Clothing at a cost of no more than 1/5th of the retail cost. These have been donated by numerous footwear and sportswear shops.
We will also be doing a Swap shop in the future where customers who have previously bought footwear and have spare right or left footwear can swap there spare footwear for other ones on our site. (as long as they are new) Please message us for more information
We will have in stock donated New but damaged clothing that would otherwise be thrown away by the stores and we then adjust them for your use. Example.. Nike shirt with rip on left sleeve can be adjusted to suit a left arm amputee.
